15 months of braces

I feel like it won't be long before I'm writing 982 months of braces!

Tomorrow will mark 15 months of braces.  Here are my pics for this month.  Since the last ones I've had the disgusting "transparent" (i.e. yellow after being in my mouth for so long) bands around my front brackets taken off.    I think the point of these bands was to close the gap between my front teeth, and I'm a bit concerned, because since I've had them off the gap has started opening up a bit :s  Also I have these weird wires going from my back brackets to my canines, which you might be able to see on the side shots.  Don't really know what these are doing.

My bottom teeth are getting REALLY brown.  I tried to take a photo in the hope that I would get lots of encouraging comments telling me that it's normal and the brownness will go after the braces are off, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately!) you can't see the brown in the pics very well.  I've got an appointment with the hygienist at my dentist soon, so hopefully she will be able to scrub a lot of the brown off.  I really hope so anyway.

On the bottom picture, I went a bit crazy with Paint and decided to draw lines from points in my teeth/jaws/mouth that should be level, to try and illustrate the wonkiness of my jaws.  I've noticed that my chin is also wonky - I don't think this is something anybody else would ever notice, so it doesn't bother me too much, but I'm wondering if my top jaw being wonky is causing my bottom jaw to be wonky which is causing my chin to be wonky?!  I don't know, maybe I'm just over thinking it all!

  1. Hmm teeth yellowing so frustrating with braces!! How about using a toothpaste with whitening and a mouthwash like listerine with whitening, not sure what they have in the uk but Im sure you have something similar that would definitely help! When I stopped using them my mom asked me why my teeth were yellowing, (Very nice) lol
    Take care!

    1. Hi, I've got a toothpaste and mouthwash with whitening at the moment but nothing seems to work! I've also bought myself a tooth whitening kit to use when my braces come off!

  2. Hi Sarah! I can see a little bit of the brown, and from what I can tell, it looks like maybe the glue that holds your brackets on is stained brown, and not actually your teeth? I hope that is the case, of course, your hygienist should know.

I think if your top jaw is off, it would throw everything else off. My bottom jaw was very crooked, and my top jaw compensated for it and then became crooked, and my chin was crooked too. But it all started with the bottom jaw, and then everything else grew crooked to make up for it...

I hope you get your surgery date soon! I know you are ready to be done with all this!

    1. Hi Ellie, I think some of it might be on the glue, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure that some of it is on my actual teeth :( Hopefully the hygienist will be able to scrub them clean for me!

Thanks, I hope I get a date soon, I am SO ready to be done with all this! I've been following your post-surgery posts and you seem like you're doing really well!

  3. In the beginning everyone faces problems and have to avoid certain type of food that can stick in the braces. In the end, when braces are removed, the result is worth facing these troubles.
