28 weeks - 7 months post-op

Hi all, just posting my monthly update.  Not much has really changed jaw wise.  I had a hospital appointment on Thursday, and my ortho just did some usual adjustments.  My next appointment is on 5th June, and at that appointment they will decide whether or not I can have my braces off... I think the chances are they will say yes...I'll be very angry if they say no!  Assuming they say yes, then I'm meant to be having two appointments on the same day at the end of June.  The first one will be to take my braces off (YAAAAAY!) and the second will be to do the moulds for my retainers.  So at the moment I'm waiting to get my two appointment dates sent to me in the post.  And once I know when I'm getting my braces off, I need to book an appointment to see my surgeon too, just for a check-up.

I also had two fillings done the other day.  My dentist had a hard time trying to do the fillings with my stupid half open mouth, but she did a good job and it didn't take too long.  I've got to have another one in a couple of weeks, but I think she thought she'd put me through enough doing two in one sitting!

Here are my 7 month pics...luckily they're more attractive than my 6 month ones!

    1. Thank you! Nope :( I can still only open two fingers, I think I'm quite delayed in this respect. I'll ask my surgeon about it next time I see him.

  6. You look incredible Sarah! Everything looks so natural and relaxed. You have a really pretty smile, both with lips apart and closed. I really wish I was able to smile with my lips closed without if feeling really tight and unnatural looking. Do you have any before/after x-rays? I would love to see them.
Your profile is really stunning! Hope you can get the braces off really soon! best of luck :)

    1. Thank you Rhianna! Are you still having problems with your closed mouth smile then? I always thought your results were incredible! I have a before x-ray but not an after one yet, I'm going to try and get one at some point though. Here is a link to my post with my before x ray http://jawsurgerystory.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/before-x-ray.html

I really hope I get my braces off soon too! Thank you!

    2. Yes! I am still having trouble with a lot of things it seems :( I still have mentalis strain which wasn't so obvious when I had swelling, but now very much so. I can smile with my lips closed but my chin massively bunches up, it's like the muscle needs to unattached or something. I feel as though my surgeon could have slided my chin more forward to help with my lip incompetence. When I look at my ex-rays, it hardly looks like it was moved much at all, especially in comparison to other people's x-ray's I have viewed who had a very similar post op profile. Also, did you have a lefort 1 on top jaw?

    3. I'm sorry to hear you're still having problems :( Yeah I think I had Lefort 1...they don't seem to call them by those names in the UK much, but I had my top jaw shortened, moved forward a bit, and rotated, as well as my bottom jaw moved forward. I didn't have my actual chin moved at all though.

  7. I feel your pain. I'm only 13 days post op and just noticed that my chin is starting to bunch up as well. I can only hope when the braces come off the lip comes in. Do you expect to do anything to ramify this?

  9. I've been following your blog for quite some time and have really enjoyed your whole story, the good and the bad in your adventure of going through jaw surgery.

I would love to interview you on your journey to help others just beginning to navigate this difficult but rewarding journey.

Would you be open for an interview? I was thinking of sending you a list of questions that you could answer on your own time.

I hope to hear from you soon and hope your TMJ has improved over the past few days. I've always enjoyed reading your blog.

  10. I am inspired on your experiences Sarah and when I am smiling( always smiling) I am encountering jaw and ear pain and sometimes I cannot smile because of the pain.
