More successful eating but told I look like a teenager

I went out last night for dinner and drinks with my friend. I ordered a panini and chips for dinner. I wasn't sure if the panini would be a good idea, but being a vegetarian I'm already pretty limited in what I can eat when I go out, so I thought I'd give it a go. It actually went suprisingly well! I managed to bite the panini ok, but biting the tomato in it was quite difficult and I ended up just having to eat massive slices of tomato in one go otherwise it would've been hanging out of my mouth! Needless to say I still had bits stuck in my braces despite the success of actually getting through it, so I had to go and clean my braces in the toilet in the restaurant/bar. I was too embarrassed to do it at the sinks in front of everyone so I went into a cubicle with my little brace cleaning brush and a mirror, and wiped the chunks of food on a piece of tissue! When I came out of the cubicle I managed to have a quick rinse in the sink while nobody was around!

So dinner was quite successful, but I got a bit annoyed later because some old man came up to me and my friend in a club and told me that I look about 17. For some reason people don't seem to think it's an insult to be told you look young and they just come up to you and say it. I'm 22, I don't want to be told I look like a teenager! I already look really young for my age, and I'm sure the braces aren't helping!

  1. I was the exact same way with being really careful about what I ordered! I never would chose something like a burger when I was out with people because the bread would just get stuck everywhere. I did a lot of tearing my food up as well, just casually when I was talking I would make everything smaller so I could put the whole piece IN my mouth and not have to bite into it with my front teeth. I know where you're at girl!

  3. Yeah I've been tearing food up as well, but the panini was too hard to tear or cut up with a knife and fork. It wasn't too bad though cos I could kind of just rip a bit off with my front teeth and then chew with the back ones!

Haha I'm sure I will Tara, my mum is 48 and she looks a lot younger so I hope that's the same for me, but at the moment I'm getting sick of being told I still look like a kid!

  4. Hopefully braces make me look younger! But I understand your frustration with eating.

  5. Eating in public is the pits but it gets better. You start learning tricks and what you can eat versus what you cannot.

  6. Hey Sarah! I'm a vegetarian too and I feel your pain when it comes to ordering food. This has become extra difficult since having braces. At school I've only been having smoothies to avoid having to clean my braces.
I also get told I look like I'm 17 and I'm 24. I'm sure someday I'll appreciate it but it's become pretty annoying at the moment. The braces don't help either lol.

  7. I know, it's so annoying! Before it was like 'what can I eat that's vegetarian?' and now it's 'what can I eat that's vegetarian and won't get completely stuck in my braces?' It really limits my food choices when I'm eating in public! I went out for dinner tonight and had chocolate cake for desert, I asked my mum if it was in my braces and she said no, and then when I got home I looked in the mirror and there was loads! I shouldn't trust my mum's eyesight haha!

Aww hope you're not too hungry only eating smoothies! I just take my little brace cleaning brush everywhere I go!

Yeah one day we'll appreciate looking young, but at the moment I just feel like I look like a teenager!
